EGA’s employees join fight against breast cancer during Pink Day

Partnership with breast cancer initiative highlights commitment to employees and community

United Arab Emirates: The active commitment of aluminium giant Emirates Global Aluminium (“EGA”) to the wellbeing of its employees and the broader community has seen more than 80 female employees screened for breast cancer and the Pink Caravan initiative benefit from a donation of AED50,000 this October, coincident with Breast Cancer month worldwide.

The donation followed EGA’s hosting of its sixth annual Pink Day in collaboration with the Pink Caravan, the UAE-based breast cancer awareness and screening initiative that was launched in 2011. The Pink Day events took place at EGA’s Al Taweelah site on 20 October and at its Jebel Ali site on 22 October, and targeted nearly 500 women across the business.

The event included screening by a female doctor from the Pink Caravan in a private, enclosed area; an educational presentation and Q&A session to raise awareness of breast cancer; and a series of fun fundraising activities, including a mini-book fair, a dedication tree, cupcakes and a photo-booth for “selfies”. Through the generosity of the participants and EGA, a donation of AED50,000 was made to the Pink Caravan to fund the treatment of patients with breast cancer in the UAE.

“We need to work together across all sectors to raise awareness of this disease and help save the lives of the women of the UAE – our colleagues, wives, sisters and mothers. We are proud to continue our collaboration with the Pink Caravan, which does such tireless work in our communities,” said Khalid Buhumaid (Senior Vice President: Communication & Government Relations at EGA).
