EGA shares latest technology innovations at TMS 2016
Technical papers presented by EGA experts at international forum in the USA
United Arab Emirates, 24 February 2016: Promoting its technology development expertise to leading industry professionals, Emirates Global Aluminium (“EGA”) recently attended the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society’s 145th Annual Meeting and Exhibition (“TMS 2016”) in the USA. A total of six papers were presented by EGA at TMS 2016, along with two joint papers developed in collaboration with the University of New South Wales (“UNSW”). Further insights into EGA and its achievements in innovation were showcased at an exhibition stand alongside the event.
A singular highlight was the presentation of a Light Metals Division (“LMD”) Young Leaders Professional Development award to EGA’s Nadia Ahli (Lead Engineer – Process Development, Technology Development & Transfer), in recognition of her contribution to technological innovation. In addition, Abdalla Alzarooni (Director, Technology Development & Transfer) and Michel Reverdy (Senior Manager, Technology Transfer, Technology Development & Transfer) each chaired a session, on process control and modelling respectively.
“EGA’s on-going participation in TMS reflects the company’s commitment to knowledge-sharing for the benefit of the wider aluminium industry around the world,” said Abdalla Al Zarouni (Director, Technology Development and Transfer: EGA). “The papers presented by EGA at the event provided insights into our most recent efforts to achieve continuous improvement in aluminium production across a range of areas – from product quality and operational effectiveness, to energy efficiency and environmental protection. During TMS, we engaged in a number of highly productive discussions with extremely valuable opportunities to connect with industry peers and potential clients for our technology.”
EGA has been involved in technology development for more than 25 years, primarily at the EGA Jebel Ali Operations site, with the aim of continuous innovation in the aluminium process so as to produce the world’s best quality aluminium products, made to order and delivered direct to customers, while achieving maximum operating efficiencies. An acknowledged innovator in the global aluminium industry, EGA models, implements and sells its in-house developed, proprietary reduction technologies. Indeed, EGA’s new-generation DX+ Technology and DX+ Ultra Technology rank among the most efficient reduction cell technologies currently available.
EGA has also proven its capability to retrofit existing potlines. Following a seven-cell pilot study, the remaining 513 D18 Technology pots in Potlines 1 to 3 at EGA Jebel Ali will be replaced with D18+ Technology cells. The new D18+ Technology cells are the product of extensive in-house modeling aimed at incorporating more modern technologies and offer improved performance and economic competitiveness.
The main technical forum for the aluminium industry, the annual TMS meeting brings together more than 4,000 experts in the materials field for an exchange of technical knowledge, leading to solutions in the workplace and in society. EGA and its operating subsidiaries have participated actively at TMS for many years.
