EGA seeks up to 200 UAE Nationals at Careers UAE

Company looking to award scholarships to promising students

United Arab Emirates, 09 April 2017: Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the largest industrial company in the UAE outside oil and gas, is looking to recruit up to 200 UAE Nationals at Careers UAE in Dubai this week.

The company also aims to attract up to 40 promising students for higher education scholarships.

EGA is a major employer of engineers and technicians as well as finance, human resources, IT administrators and other corporate professionals.

Some 1,200 UAE Nationals already work at EGA.

EGA is looking both for experienced UAE Nationals and young people to join its National Trainee Apprenticeship Schemes and Graduate Trainee programmes.

EGA is targeting 40 per cent Emiratisation by 2020 of in-focus positions, which are all those that could feasibly be Emiratised. EGA’s aim for 2017 is to reach 37 per cent Emiratisation in these positions.

Careers UAE takes place at Dubai World Trade Centre from 9 to 11 April. EGA has participated in the event since 2001 and this year will be at stand 8C-1.

Abdulla Kalban, EGA’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, said: “Our people drive our performance at EGA, so we pay careful attention to recruiting the very best person for each role. Whether you have great potential or strong experience, I encourage you to approach EGA at Careers UAE.”

Mr Kalban originally joined EGA in 1985 as a graduate trainee. Six other members of EGA’s top Executive Committee also started with the company as fresh graduates.

Approximately 40 per cent of those holding the top 250 positions at EGA are UAE Nationals, as are more than a third of the 1,800 people in supervisory positions and above.

EGA typically has over 100 graduate trainees employed at any time, on 18 month graduate training programmes before assignment to permanent roles in the organization.

Some 80 young UAE Nationals participate in EGA’s National Trainee Apprenticeship Schemes each year before taking up roles within EGA. Their training lasts up to three years.

EGA has sponsored over 350 UAE Nationals through education since 2001. Over 150 UAE Nationals are currently sponsored in their studies at universities by EGA, including 15 studying abroad.

EGA is also pioneering the role of women in heavy industry. Over 16 per cent of those at working at supervisory level and above at EGA are female.
