EGA resumes summer internships programme and welcomes 20 UAE National students

United Arab Emirates, 14 July 2021: Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside of oil and gas, will provide internships for 20 UAE National university and high school students this summer, giving them valuable work experience to enhance their career prospects.

The EGA summer internships programme is being resumed after being on hiatus in 2020 due to COVID-19. Only students who are vaccinated have been accepted for summer internships, and EGA will require regular COVID-19 testing as it does for employees.

This year’s batch of incoming students consist of high school students from grades 10, 11, and 12 and university students majoring in subjects such as Engineering, Computer and Information Technology, Health and Safety, Media and Law. 50 percent of the group are female students, supporting the inclusion and training of UAE National women in important industries and professions.

Iman Al Qasim, Executive Vice President of Human Capital, said: “EGA is a strong advocate for early work experience, which we believe encourages students to pursue careers in important UAE industries such as aluminium. The summer internships programme is one of our many initiatives to support UAE youth gain valuable work experience and build a repertoire of skills that will be of use in their future.”

EGA has been running its summer internship programme for more than 20 years. EGA’s 2019 summer training programme welcomed some 30 students and ran from mid-July to mid-August.

EGA currently employs more than 1,200 UAE Nationals in total. The company typically has more than 80 graduate trainees, many from science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines enrolled in its 18 or 24 month graduate trainee programme at any time.

EGA also runs apprenticeship schemes for young UAE Nationals pursuing careers in technical roles.
