EGA named founding partner of Dubai's flagship golf events

UAE industrial company has sponsored both Omega Dubai Ladies Classic and Omega Dubai Desert Classic since their inception

DUBAI, 03 December 2017 : Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside oil and gas, has been named Founding Partner of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the Omega Dubai Ladies Classic as the company extends sponsorship of both Dubai’s major professional golf events until 2021.

EGA has sponsored the Omega Dubai Desert Classic since its inception in 1992 and the Omega Dubai Ladies Classic since its first edition in 2006.

In October, EGA announced an agreement with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council to become a presenting partner of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. The event has been renamed the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA.

EGA is the only company to sponsor professional golf in both Emirates.

Abdulla Kalban, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of EGA, said: “We are delighted to extend our association with professional golf in Dubai, which has played an important role over many years in raising the profile of the Emirate and showcasing it as an innovative, cosmopolitan global hub for business and tourism.

“EGA is at the heart of the aluminium industry in the UAE, which is a significant driver of economic diversification. Events like the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the Omega Dubai Ladies Classic have helped drive growth in other sectors of the economy to the benefit of society.”

Peter Dawson, chairman of Golf in Dubai, said: “DUBAL and then EGA have made a phenomenal contribution to raising the global profile of these two major events in Dubai, and through golf the profile of Dubai itself. It has been an extremely exciting journey with a UAE-company that has become synonymous with our sport.

“EGA’s unflinching support has helped create real impact and we are honoured to welcome them in their new role as the Founding Partner for Dubai’s flagship golf events and their continuing sponsorship.”

EGA was formed through the merger of DUBAL and EMAL in 2014 and is owned by Mubadala Investment Company and Investment Corporation of Dubai. EGA is the largest company that is jointly-owned by the two Emirates.
