EGA contributes AED 3 million towards UAE’s ‘One Billion Meals’ campaign

United Arab Emirates, 26 April 2022: Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside oil and gas, today announced a donation of AED 3 million towards the UAE’s humanitarian campaign, ‘One Billion Meals’ which aims to combat hunger in 50 countries around the world.

The campaign reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to develop comprehensive humanitarian aid as a major priority. To date, the initiative has provided over 420 million meals and is the biggest food distribution campaign in the region.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of EGA, said; “We are honoured to participate in the ‘One Billion Meals’ initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and donate AED 3 million to those in need. EGA is a national industrial champion, and our aluminium is a UAE product used by billions of people around the world. This noble initiative is a global message of solidarity from our country to the entire human family.”

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched ‘One Billion Meals’ at the start of this year’s Holy Month of Ramadan.

The international drive is being led by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiative and is an expansion of the UAE’s previous Ramadan campaigns, including the ‘100 Million Meals’ which exceeded its target and distributed 220 million meals in 2021.

The campaign is being held in collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian & Charity Establishment, the Food Banking Regional Network, the UN World Food Programme, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and a number of organisations in the UAE and targeted countries.

Separately, in the spirit of the Holy Month of Ramadan, the EGA Youth Council in cooperation with the EGA Corporate Social Responsibility department and endorsed by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, continues to provide volunteers to distribute dates and water at mosques in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, in addition to collecting donations of rice and stationery that will be distributed to less fortunate families and students in the UAE and abroad.
